CHEVROLET MALIBU LTZ The new Chevrolet Malibu is built on GM’s Epsilon global platform that is the foundation for several vehicles, including the Aura.
However, it is the skin over the top of the frame that helps make the Malibu special. With more style and panache than the contestants in Dancing with the Stars, the clean, uncluttered look includes a classy split grille complete with a gold bow tie that lets you know you are in Chevy country.
The Malibu is available in three levels of trim and powered by either an ECOTEC four-cylinder linked to a four- speed automatic (six-speed later on), Hybrid or V6 with a six-speed automatic that is standard on the LTZ. There are 252 horses, the least tested. However, they proved to be enough to give the LTZ the fastest acceleration by a nose over the Altima, albeit with more torque steer than the others. Seating is comfortable and the unique LTZ two-tone interior colour will grow on you.
Legroom is generous for both front and rear occupants, and there is ample head room. An abundance of in-cabin stowage spaces and a power adjustable brake pedal are nice touches. Perhaps the most notable feature when inside is how quiet the Malibu is at speed — it is segment leading. The Malibu has the largest trunk and its fold-down rear seats, complete with hard body backing, add to the utility and make them more durable for items that could rip cloth or leather.
