GM has apparently already shelved plans to bring the Chevrolet Orlando crossover concept to the U.S., not even two weeks after unveiling the concept’s existence. Instead of the seven-seat Chevrolet Cruze-based compact crossover, we will reportedly instead get another rebadged car from Asia, though GM won’t say which one yet. The Orlando isn’t totally dead, though, it may still see production for European markets.

The national media is poised to pounce if the Chevrolet Volt fails to win the hearts of the buying public. “If it fails, it could drag GM, and perhaps the entire struggling American auto industry, even farther behind Asian competitors,” warned The New York Times on Sunday. The Wall Street Journal on Monday said: “GM knows the dangers of disappointing avid fans” in an update of the Volt.

The African continent’s been GM’s biggest single growth area, with annual volumes tripling to 180,000 units since 2002. In South Africa, the compact Chevrolet Aveo has contributed generously to the bowtie’s growth with nearly 20,000 units sold since its debut in 2003. The car, built by GM’s South Korean division, was last month given a nip and a tuck to see it through until 2010 when the second-generation Aveo arrives.

What is it? The all-new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is a modern interpretation of the classic original, built on a modern, rear-drive platform. Like the 1960s car, the new Camaro will be offered in coupe and convertible body styles, with both V6 and V8 engines. Three powertrains will be offered initially, with the base Camaro fitted with a 300-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and a six-speed automatic is optional with manual override feature.

Inside, Chevrolet uses the Volt as an opportunity to capture a new aesthetic, with a fresh take on Chevrolet’s dual-cockpit theme. A smooth, glossy white center stack features a fixed screen atop a bank of capacitive-touch controls that use body heat from fingertips to actuate. The shifter is flush with the center stack when in park, but slides rearward in drive or reverse.

The Chevrolet Volt can be plugged either into a standard household 120v outlet or use 240v for charging. The vehicle’s intelligent charging technology enables the Volt’s battery to be charged in less than three hours on a 240v outlet or about eight hours on a 120v outlet. Charge times are reduced if the battery has not been fully depleted.

To commemorate General Motors’ 110th birthday, the American manufacturer has lifted the veil on the much anticipated Chevrolet Volt. The Chevrolet Volt is powered by an electric engine producing 150 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. The energy required to power the engine is accumulated by lithium-ion batteries . This drive train allows the Volt to reach a top speed of 160 km/h and to travel 64 km in electric mode.

The wait is over. General Motors broke cover on the much anticipated final production look of the extended range electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt, that will run as a pure electric with a gasoline engine that will recharge its batteries as needed. The introduction took place today in Detroit in celebration of the carmaker s hundredth anniversary. Revealing the production version of the Chevy Volt is a great way to open our second century, said Rick Wagoner, GM chairman and CEO.
